My husband, Bill, and I married young and set about creating a good life for our three sons. At various times, we ranched, had milk cows, chickens, and always, nurtured an immense organic garden in raised beds decades before it became commonplace. We went back to college, where my husband became a lawyer, and I, a high school teacher of business. Eventually, I went back to university to obtain my master degree in Education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership. In the meantime, I built my professional life on the Wind River Indian Reservation, where I wrote grants to obtain the funds to implement educational opportunities for the people I served. I made many life-long friends during my tenure.
Once I was diagnosed with lung cancer, I took an unmarked, unplanned for detour, so now the remainder of my life is like an unopened Christmas gift. I had to say goodbye to my old life. In an attempt to map my course I labeled my life BC/AD, life Before Cancer, and life After Diagnosis. I am going to blog my explorations for those that may follow. My interests are eclectic, so my blog will cover wide-ranging topics as well. I describe myself as:
• A lover of humanity
• Dreamer
• Do the hard work necessary to put wheels on the dream
• Creative problem solver
• And now, I am a resilient stage IV lung cancer survivor
I am a non-smoker who was exposed to asbestos from a young age due to the career of my blue-collar father. There are also many toxins in the area where I had my profession. There is an alarmingly high cancer rate in the area.
